You’d think that people who live near a busy rail corridor would know better. I started shouting pointlessly at my windshield as cars just kept boxing the idiots in.
I think I’m now in favor of everyone putting an 800 number on their cars. “Call me to tell me how I failed today.”

Eh, if they’re dumb enough to park on it they deserve to be boxed in......

if everybody had an 800 number so people can call them and tell them how dumb/bad they suck, it would crush the cellular network.

I’ve seen people on the stopped on tracks When the gates start to come down and their first panicky reaction is to start honking so they can pull forward instead of putting it into reverse.

This intersection, or series of intersections, is on my way home from work. It’s hard to see, but just past the overpass is another traffic signal, then a bridge over the river, then
another
traffic signal. At 4:30 PM on weekdays, every lane is full of cars. Because of that, people want to get through that first light, but the first and second lights aren’t synced...so they go through the light, across the tracks, then stop under the overpass. Only about 4 or 5 cars can fit under the overpass, so the extra jerks start backing up through the intersection (backing up the off-ramp) AND stopping on the railroad tracks. The congestion is awful and I’m shocked every time I get through without seeing a fistfight or train collision.
Also, cars intending to turn onto the on ramp before the overpass regularly turn onto the tracks instead, then get stuck and can’t get off. They’ve been trying different solutions here every year with no success in the 11 years I’ve lived here.

I was thinking the same thing. This is just potential free entertainment.

I’m lucky that I don’t have to commute, but I suspect that luck is going to run out soon. Mass Ave is very convenient for me off hours, but I don’t think I want to deal with it during that craziness.

I worked in the railroad industry for 8+ years. If they knew how trains stopped, and how long it takes to stop a train, they wouldn’t do that.
Never, ever, ever stop on railroad tracks. There’s *never* a good reason to do so.
Most of the RR employees that I knew wouldn’t stop within 50 feet of the tracks - they’re the ones sitting 75-100 feet short when they’re first in line.

God, some people. I stopped once
with about 20 feet between me and the car in front of me and a railroad track with barriers between us, and the guy behind me honked and flashed high beams at me. What, do you want to be stopped for this light 20 feet ahead?

Ugh. I cross a railroad to get to work, it’s right in front of an intersection:
A few weeks ago I was in the right lane, about to stop at the red light when I noticed a pair of older ladies sitting directly on the tracks at the red light in the left lane. No traffic behind me, so I stopped, motioned for them to roll the window down, and told them they really shouldn’t stop on railroad tracks; it isn’t safe. Her reply: “It’s okay, we looked, there isn’t a train coming.”
!!!
Lady, you’re not going to see the train until it’s too late.

Stopping on the tracks... what could possibly go wrong, eh?

We have an intersection like this leaving the school. Thing is, the left turn light won’t trigger if you stop ahead of the line. It cracks me up to see people stuck for cycle after cycle because they think the rules don’t apply to them.

There was a loop detector controlled left turn near me in Houston that never triggered for my S40 regardless of where I lined up. So many illegal left turns to avoid being stuck (it was only sensor activated past midnight, so there were almost never any cars). My S60 never had that issue, so I’m guessing it was just overly sensitive. And of course it’s frequently an issue on a bicycle, since most detectors aren’t sensitive enough to detect them, and even the ones that are you need to be in a specific , frequently unmarked, place for it to work.

Yeah, I had a few turns on the bike where I either had to run the light or push the pedestrian crosswalk button to get through. The intersection I was referring to was just funny to me because the people who drove past the line not onl y wouldn’t get a light, they’d get stuck inside (or hit with) the crossing guards when the light rail went through.

I think they’d still do it even if they knew because you can never underestimate stupi dity.
Too many people think they are more important than everyone else and that their time and their presence on this planet is what everyone else lives for.

If we can sync that with one of these,
that deploys to the driver’s face after five consecutive negative calls in a month.
More than 15 or 20 a month then get mace in the face.

So true. Based on my travels, it’s worse here in the states, too. “ American Individualism” at its worst.
